Searching For Your Next Home? Essential Notes You Should Be Taking

Visiting potential homes is an exciting part of the buying process.

Taking notes on each property toured can be helpful in remembering what amenities each home had for comparing later on.

Here are three essential notes you should include about each of the homes you visit when searching for your next home.

Stroll the Neighborhood

As real estate professionals, we are so often asked “Who lives here?” “What are the neighbors like?” and “What’s the traffic like?” all of which are subjective questions.

I suggest that prospective buyers grab a cup of coffee and take a stroll around the block, neighborhood on a Sunday morning. By buyers taking some time to walk the area themselves, even if they are a local, it is one of the best things they can do to assure themselves that this area is the right fit for them and their family.

Get the Inspection

It’s a very HOT market right now and sometimes buyers feel that waiving a home or pest inspection will better their chances of having their offer accepted.

A pest and home inspection are such an important part of any buyer’s due diligence and by waiving they are putting themselves at such a risk for inheriting unseen problems which can end up costing them big in the end.

Create a Checklist

When it comes to comparing homes, make a list of what it is about your current home that drives you crazy. Is it that the cupboards are old and slam close? Is it that they don’t have room for an outdoor BBQ? Or that there’s no wall in the living room for their TV? Write it down!

Make a checklist that you can put the property address on at the top and then for each house you look at, put a check mark by the features of that property that meet the needs you are most in search of.

The Take Away

By taking thorough notes when viewing potential properties, you can get a better idea which home will be the best fit for your or your family’s needs and become a home you will love.
